Jungwat Series by Mahasanae

JUNGWAT — Understanding Your Thai Trainer

A course about the Thai words, phrases and deeper coaching ideas that are often lost in translation.

The progression is:

Control yourself → understand timing → hold your position → control the exchange → attack with purpose → fight with freedom

Six modules. Twenty-seven lessons. Thai words you hear in camp — explained the way trainers actually use them.

The Gap

The deeper you go into Muay Thai, the more you realise there is another layer beneath the techniques.

The kicks make sense. The knees make sense. The combinations make sense. Yet something still feels missing.

You watch elite Thai fighters and know they're seeing something you aren't.

You hear trainers repeat the same words over and over. Sometimes they explain. Sometimes they don't. Sometimes everyone in the gym seems to understand except you.

Jungwat. Ning. Jai Su. Yeen Di Di. Awk Lei. Ya Awk Agan.

You know the translation. But not always what they're actually trying to teach.

That's what this project explores.

What is the Jungwat Series?

The Jungwat Series explores Muay Thai through the concepts that shape it.

Each episode focuses on a single word, idea, or principle commonly found inside Thai fight culture.

Not just what the word translates to. But what sits behind it. How trainers use it. How fighters apply it. How it appears in real fights. Why it matters. And what it reveals about the deeper language of Muay Thai.

The goal isn't to memorise definitions. The goal is to better understand the sport itself.

Thai concepts explained

Many of Muay Thai's most important lessons are hidden inside concepts that don't translate neatly into English.

Jungwat. Ning. Awk Lei. Ya Awk Agan. Jai Su. Yeen Di Di.

Words Thai fighters hear from trainers, camps, and stadiums throughout their entire lives.

Concepts that influence how they fight, score, react under pressure, carry themselves, and understand the sport.

Most foreign fighters hear these words. Very few ever get the opportunity to properly explore them.

Each episode attempts to unpack one piece of that puzzle.

Real fight examples

The concepts aren't taught through theory alone.

Each lesson is explored through real examples taken from fights, training footage, conversations, and observations from Thailand.

Learning how to throw a kick is one thing. Understanding why generations of Thai fighters have been able to dominate using what often looks like simple Muay Thai is another.

The concepts are explored through real examples. So you don't just understand the word. You start recognising it when it appears in front of you.

Learn to see the sport differently

Over time something interesting begins to happen. You stop watching fights the same way. You start noticing things other people miss.

  • Why one exchange scored and another didn't
  • Why one fighter looks calm while the other looks rushed
  • Why some fighters seem to control a fight without doing very much at all
  • Why certain trainers keep repeating the same lessons year after year

The techniques stay the same. But your understanding becomes deeper.

Thailand culture & mindset

The concepts don't exist in isolation. They come from a culture. A way of thinking. A way of learning.

The series also explores:

  • Trainer relationships
  • Gym hierarchy
  • Stadium culture
  • Gambling influence
  • Camp etiquette
  • Thai fight mentality
  • The unspoken rules that shape the sport

Because understanding Muay Thai is about more than understanding techniques. It's about understanding the environment that created them.

A perspective between two worlds

The Jungwat Series is created by Mahasanae Wor Watthana (Matt Rintranulux).

Born in Thailand. Raised in Australia. And fortunate enough to spend years living, training, and learning inside both Thai and Western Muay Thai culture.

It's a perspective that is surprisingly uncommon. Many people experience Muay Thai through the lens of the West. Others grow up immersed in it inside Thailand. Very few spend a lifetime moving between both worlds.

Close enough to understand the language, culture, humour, and way of thinking behind the sport. Far enough away to recognise the things that often go unexplained.

Over the years, Muay Thai has taken Matt from Melbourne to rural Isaan, into gyms, camps, conversations, and experiences that sparked a simple question: How much of Muay Thai gets lost in translation?

Not just language. But concepts. Ideas. Ways of seeing.

The lessons hidden inside words like Jungwat, Ning, Awk Lei, Ya Awk Agan, and Jai Su. The things trainers repeat every day that somehow never seem to make it into books, seminars, or YouTube tutorials.

The Jungwat Series isn't built around the idea that Matt has all the answers. It's built around a genuine curiosity and ongoing effort to better understand the deeper language of Muay Thai.

To ask questions. Study fights. Listen to trainers. Compare perspectives. And document what is discovered along the way.

The hope is that by exploring these ideas publicly, other fighters, coaches, and students of the art can come along for the journey. Not simply learning what Thai fighters do. But gaining a deeper understanding of how Muay Thai is understood from the place it came from. One concept at a time.

This is for the people who know there's something deeper

The Jungwat Series isn't for everyone.

It's for the people who stay after training asking questions. The people who rewatch fights. The people who hear a trainer repeat the same lesson over and over and wonder what they're really trying to teach.

The people who know there is more to Muay Thai than combinations and conditioning. The people who want to understand the art, not just perform it.

If you've ever watched a fight and felt like there was something important happening that you couldn't quite explain... you're probably in the right place.

The Jungwat Project

The Jungwat Series is part of a larger long-term project between Mahasanae Breakdowns and FightLore.

The goal is ambitious: to create one of the most comprehensive explorations of Muay Thai concepts, culture, scoring, rhythm, and understanding ever assembled in English.

Through years of research, conversations, observations, fight footage, and lived experience inside the sport.

Ultimately, the aim is to turn this work into a physical book. A resource dedicated to documenting and exploring the deeper language of Muay Thai for future generations of fighters, coaches, and students of the art.

The Founding List gives you a front-row seat to that process. As concepts are researched, explored, tested, and developed, you'll receive early access to breakdowns, insights, discoveries, and future material long before they ever become chapters.

You'll be learning alongside the project as it evolves. One concept. One breakdown. One discovery at a time.

Join the Founding List

Founding members will receive:

  • Early access to every new concept exploration as the project evolves
  • Real fight examples that bring Thai concepts to life
  • Insights, observations, and discoveries that may never make it into public content
  • A front-row seat to the creation of the Jungwat Project and future book
  • Early access to future FightLore+ releases
  • The opportunity to follow the journey from the very beginning

Right now the project is still being built. The concepts are still being explored. The questions are still being asked. And the book hasn't been written yet.

Which means there's never been a better time to join.

If you've ever felt there was something deeper hidden beneath the techniques... If you've ever heard a trainer say "Jungwat" and wondered what they really meant... If you've ever watched elite Thai fighters and felt like they were seeing something you weren't...

You're probably right. Join the Founding List and come explore it with us.
